Insidious
Insidious's opening 2 minutes you can see that it is very creepy and mysterious. The colour is very dark which indicates the theme of horror so the audience will have an idea that the film will be dark and gloomy which is what the audience will want to see from a horror film.Insidious is a supernatural horror directed by James Wan it is about a married couple Josh and Renai and their sons Dalton and Foster and their infant daughter Cali have recently moved into a new home. One night Dalton is drawn to the attic, when he hears creaking noises and sees the door open by itself. He falls from a ladder while investigating and sees a figure in the shadows. The next day, Dalton falls into an inexplicable coma. After three months without result, Renai and Josh are allowed to take Dalton home. Soon after, supernatural activity begins to occur. This will make the audience feel creeped out as they supernatural activity is happening. In the opening scene the only characters you see is Dalton(the son) in his bed and a scary guy in the mirror this is good that it is this intense at the beginning because you need to show fright and in-tenseness to make the audience hooked. The background is quite gloomy and dark at the start of then after the titles have been revealed the picture turns into black and white and looks very vintage which some horrors are like very old and vintage.
The sound in the opening is very scary as it give a very screechy sound to it as it brings the intense atmosphere to the opening scene. Having this intense screechy music in the opening scene shows how much the opening scene can effect the audience by making the music and sound so scary and express that it is going to be a scary film. The body language in the opening scene is very intense as it brings a nervous atmosphere and the intention that someone is going to jump out and get you. The audience will expect the opening 2 minutes to be scary as it is a horror film and horror films are thrilling and dramatic
In the opening scene you see a series of camera shots such as a panning shot of the rooms and then it turns into a zoom in close up shot of the scary man. After the title there are various medium shots of each room. There is a sign of editing in the opening scene as there dissolving titles into black screen and the production credits at the beginning as each name come up it dissolves into a black screen this makes it more slow and scary especially with the screechy violin sound. Over all Insidious reaches my expectation of a horror film judging on the opening scene as it is scary which creepy objects and the sound and colour of the screen.
