The Shining
In the opening scene of The Shining it starts of with a credits/titles this reminds the audience what the film is about and the directer. It shows you the location of the film and the surroundings of the are that the characters are involved in. I think it builds up the tension of the film by showing the location of where the film is being set as it summarizing the theme of the film. The shining is where a family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific foreboding from the past and of the future, this links to horror as it shows the violence and spiritual feeling in the film. There are no characters in the opening two minutes as they are focusing on the location and the sound of the first opening scene. The location is of a car driving down a road with the roads being surrounding by land this gives the audience some suspense on whats going to happen after the opening scene.
The sound that is being used in the film is very tense and dramatic as it build tension towards the audience as the camera pans over the location. As the opening 2 minutes the sound gets louder which gives the opening 2 minutes more tension as it leads into the next scene which the audience will want to carry on watching. There is not much body language in the opening scene as there is no characters in the opening scene so therefore there is no body language which is a shame because there should be at least a character in the opening scene so that the audience knows who is in the opening scene and most importantly who's in the film

In the opening scene there is a lot of key camera shots used as they use the camera to pan in the sky like a high shot this makes the film more effective you are moving in a speed where it looks like you are on some sort of helicopter or plane. It is at a high shot so you can see the car going down the road at a high point of view so you can see the surrounding area and especially which the sound being screechy and tense you can really tell its a horror film. Overall The Shining is a great horror film as it includes victims, antagonist and blood and violence which everyone will expect from a horror film and make the audience scared and hooked to the film.
