Considering of Stereotype

The stereotype that we are portraying in are opening 2 minutes is 'damsel in distress' we have decided to do this so that the audience can feel sorry for Hannah who will be getting attacked by the antagonist. Half the people who are interested in the film are female so they can sort of relate to the situation of walking home by yourself and being unsafe and having anyone to help you. Hannah is at a young age so this shows that it appeals our target audience which will be in the young adults 18+ category. This is very stereotypical in horror films as females are usually the victim as they can be weak and in danger.
The antagonist is normally a scary man, but in our opening 2 minutes we wanted to subvert to this and use an ordinary person which could be anyone. We wanted to show to the audience that anyone could be the antagonist because anyone could have an evil side to them. We didn't use a man in our opening but we still tried to make it realistic by getting someone a stronger then Hannah. With the Mother and Friend we tried to convey the upset and concern that the daughter has not returned home. It was difficult for the mother to being visibly upset whilst filming as we need to be upset as Hannah is being physically attacked. This is is very stereotypical for mother in these sort of films as they are the ones that always worry and always convey emotion through the film to their loved ones
