Above, you can see our results from our questionnaire, we have sent out this questionnaire so that we can get some ideas for our opening 2 minutes and get an audiences point of view as we hadn't decided props and location, so we wanted to find out from the audience what they thought the best possible props and location would be suitable for a horror film. From the results we have decided to set our film in the woods as that was the majority of the vote and our main props would be blood and knife which we can link them together so it can be more scary. Also the results tell us the age range suitable for our opening 2 minutes which is 16-20,so know we have an idea of what sort of target audience will have.

Horror Film Research - The Shining
The Shining
In the opening scene of The Shining it starts of with a credits/titles this reminds the audience what the film is about and the directer. It shows you the location of the film and the surroundings of the are that the characters are involved in. I think it builds up the tension of the film by showing the location of where the film is being set as it summarizing the theme of the film. The shining is where a family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific foreboding from the past and of the future, this links to horror as it shows the violence and spiritual feeling in the film. There are no characters in the opening two minutes as they are focusing on the location and the sound of the first opening scene. The location is of a car driving down a road with the roads being surrounding by land this gives the audience some suspense on whats going to happen after the opening scene.
The sound that is being used in the film is very tense and dramatic as it build tension towards the audience as the camera pans over the location. As the opening 2 minutes the sound gets louder which gives the opening 2 minutes more tension as it leads into the next scene which the audience will want to carry on watching. There is not much body language in the opening scene as there is no characters in the opening scene so therefore there is no body language which is a shame because there should be at least a character in the opening scene so that the audience knows who is in the opening scene and most importantly who's in the film

In the opening scene there is a lot of key camera shots used as they use the camera to pan in the sky like a high shot this makes the film more effective you are moving in a speed where it looks like you are on some sort of helicopter or plane. It is at a high shot so you can see the car going down the road at a high point of view so you can see the surrounding area and especially which the sound being screechy and tense you can really tell its a horror film. Overall The Shining is a great horror film as it includes victims, antagonist and blood and violence which everyone will expect from a horror film and make the audience scared and hooked to the film.

Practice Titles
In this title the font type looks very environmental with the colour being all different shades of green. it is quite bold as the font is curled and fancy like a fairy tale title, as the type of writing is curly which doesn't really have a massive impact on horror, but if you changed the colour of it to darker colour may look a bit more creepy and scary.
In this title the font type is bold and stands out towards the audience. The colour is grey and musty and gives a gloomy effect to it and makes it bold to stand out in a horror film. Same as the title above it does have an environmental feel to the title with the font and colour but it may look to be less scary then the other titles

In the 3rd title it gives a bloody effect to the title with the colours black and red and that there may be gore and blood in the film and it is very bland and bold so it will stand out to the audience. This is the title that we have decided to use as it is red which indicates blood and in our film there is something to do with blood and it is blood and really goes with the theme of our film.

In this title it is a weird, bold and wacky font which will also stand out to the impending audience and the colour scheme red/burgundy shows that it will be a fiery/bloody horror film. It looks like a cartoon based title with the wacky font so it may look a little bit childish.
