Trailer Analysis Guidance
Consider the following key questions about mise-en-scene and camera composition to analyse film openings:
What costume do characters wear and what are the key connotations?
What body language is used by characters and to what effect?
What are we shown by proxemics (how far apart characters are) and what is communicated to the audience?
How is lighting used and what effect does it have?
What settings are there and how are they established?
What is said and how does it make the audience think or feel?
What key shots are used and to what effect?
Aim to analyse three film openings using key terms and concepts learned in your G321 and G322 studies.

Grease Opening scene
Grease Opening Scene
In the opening scene of Grease it is set in an exotic location on the beach with Sandy and Danny being all romantic, it is a romantic genre as you can tell by the location and the body language between the two. They use long shot angle of them on the beach as part of the opening scene with a view of the beautiful sunset as the background this can show more effect on the scene as it is very eye catching. It makes it even more romantic with the classical music in the back ground. Also included is a few medium shots of them kissing with the sunset giving it an effect. Having a beach location setting is very romantic and effective as when you met someone for the first time the beach beach gives it a bit of romance as it is just beautiful.

Also in the opening scene you can see sometimes can see some over the shoulder shots where the camera has significantly shot an angle over the shoulder so you can see from a personal side of view what the seeing whilst in the conversation it just makes it more exciting having unusual camera shot. All these shots make the movie look more creative as you are shooting in an unusual angle
When it gets to 1 mins 43 seconds it goes in to a cartoon replica of the movie its self with the song 'Grease is the word' running through the clip. i think this is very effective as it shows even though this film was made in the 70's it still can use different effects to make the film more effective. The angle shots used are mainly medium shots or close ups as this part is basically introducing which characters is which and which actor plays it by showing the cartoon version of them.

Overall considering this film is a romance it can be very entertaining for an opening scene especially if there is a catchy song to it so people can get hyped up with film and sing along to it whilst it is coming on. Opening scenes are very important as you need to have a dramatic or entertaining scene so the audience can see what the film could be about so they continue to watch it more.

Pitch perfect opening 2 minutes
Pitch Perfect Opening Scene
As the opening scene continues there is a lot of close up shot at the girls face while she is on her laptop listening to her music also the camera is focusing on her hand movements whilst she is typing on her laptop. There is also over shoulder shots in the opening as the camera shows what she is doing over her shoulder to get some exciting camera angles.
There is a lot of zooming in and out with the computer screen as the camera is trying to show the audience what exactly she is doing by zooming in and out and panning her movements. There is also use of an high shot or a birds eye view as the camera is viewing what the girl is doing from high up so or significantly a birds eye view of things. There is a lot of panning once she has finished on her laptop for instance when she is moving the camera moves with her with low shots, high shots, medium shots and a birds eye view shots. This is effective as the audience can feel like there moving with the girl in the film. The music in the background is also another thing that is effective as you feel like you also have the headphones in your ears as well as moving with her, but when she takes her headphones off the music stops.

My Favourite Genre and Why?
My favourite Genre is probably romance because I love the whole idea of there being an onscreen relationship and the audience doesn't know whether or not they are going to last so its quite exciting to get into the story. Obviously Mamma Mia is my all time favourite romance film as it sings well known songs from the 80's pop group Abba which is always so catchy. The film director Phyllida Lloyd sets the movie in a exotic location which makes it even more romantic with the greek islands being so beautiful so it really goes with the romantic genre.
The romantic genre is quite popular as it emphasizing love and emotion, the two basic elements of comprising every romance novel is a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending. The main plot centers around two individuals falling in love and
struggling to make the relationship work. A writer can include as many subplots as he/she wants
as long as the love story is the main focus. In a romance, the lovers who risk
and struggle for each other and their relationship are rewarded with emotional justice and
unconditional love. The reason why i am such a fan of romantic genre is because i just love the fact that a loving couple are in a relationship and the plot is always that you don't know whether there going to be together but you do know that at the end it gets all emotional and the couple always gets together which is a nice feeling as this can happen in real life.

Comedy films have some sense of humor and they make people laugh. So I expect the film to be funny and also have happy endings or the humor may have a more serious and evil side

Actions films usually need high energy and big budgets and physical stunts. Probably with rescue, battle, fights and escape. I expect very highly dramatic scene and loads of exciting stunts

Drama |
Drama is a serious presentation or stories setting or life situations that portrays realistic characters in conflict with either themselves or others or forces of nature. I will expect a real life story to be told to the audience and make the audience understand what the films are trying to tell

|
Adventure are exciting stories, with new experiences or exotic locations. Adventure films are very similar to action genre in which they are designed to provide an action filled, energetic experience for the film viewer. So I expect there to be lots of energy and lots of action so they can get the audience to be hooked.

My Favourite Film
My favourite film of all time is Mamma Mia due to it being a musical based film, as i am a theatrical sort of person and i love all the songs that are in the movie and the location setup as it it filmed on a Greek island its just so fun and entertaining and the acting side of it is brilliant. The film is a romantic genre as it about 2 young adult Sky and Sophie are getting married on a Greek island. When Sophie doesn't know who her father is she invites 3 men who was in her mothers life 9 months before she was born. When the 3 men (Harry, Sam and Bill) rock up onto the island Sophie's Mum (Donna) gets a very unexpected surprise, She panics and then finally at the day of the Sophie and Sky's wedding admits who the farther is, The father ends up being Sam and Sophie tells sky she wants to go travelling first before she gets married so calls off the wedding so that leads Sam to express his long never ending love for Donna and asks her to to marry him, she happily says yes and they live the rest of there lives together and Sophie knows who her farther is and she gets to spend the rest of her life with him.My favourite director is Steven Spielberg as he has made genus films in his time, films like ET, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones just those really exciting action films with the awesome sound effects and he makes his audience gripped and so drawn into his films. My favourite film genre is probably romance and comedy as you just get drawn into the film especially if it is romance as you get involved into there relationship and sometimes you get quite emotional about it. Comedy just makes me laugh all the time especially if its a sitcom, just those stupid silly lines just make you laugh that why i like it so much.
The last film i saw was Grease as i was on my way in the car on holiday and that was the DVD i brought and its a bit like Mamma Mia as it is theatrical and the genre is romance it has well known songs in the film so that why its so good and entertaining as you can get up and dance to it. I thought that Grease was just so interesting and entertaining considering it was filmed in the late 70's ( 1978 ). it just shows that films filmed in the 70's, 80's and 90's are still the world top best films and some peoples guilty pleasures and how the society has changed since then.
The film that i am anticipating to see is the new bond film 'Spectre' I am looking forward to seeing this film as it is supposed to be the most talked about film of 2015. The reason why I am excited to see it is because it is supposed to be very dramatic and exciting so the viewers can get hooked. It is the twenty fourth bond film to be released and everyone loves bond films with Daniel Craig as he is an incredible actor so seeing him act is a really good.
